Car Care

Over the years I have tried many different car care products with mixed results. This means a lot of wasted time & money, but hey, if no one reviews or comments on particular products, the only way to find out is to try it yourself!

Below is a list of each of the best item that I have tried and I can safetly recommend as 'does work'.

I have seperated them into different sections (as listed below) depending on the purpose.

Paint & Scratch Repair

If you have a small scratch, or even a slightly deeper one at which point you can see white, below are the best products that I have tried. Both are best used with an electric Car Polisher (if available).

Farecla Smart - Liquid Compund for Smart Repairs
http://www.farecla.co.uk

This is to be used as the main scratch remover, or even to blend in the paint to cover the white undercoat. This more or less melts the paint and uses a little abrasive.

Once you are finished with this, you will notice (or may not notice) that there will be alot of fine scratches all around where this was applied, to get rid of them, use G10 as below.

Farecla Smart - Liquid Compund for Smart Repairs

Farecla G10 - Extra Fine Grade Liquid Compound
http://www.farecla.co.uk

This is the next level with a very fine abrasive. This should be used to get rid of the fine scratches left after using Smart Repair. Superb product!

Car Wash

There is not much to the below, besides recommending some good prodcuts for each part of the car.

Turtlewax Microfibre Car Wash Mitt
http://www.turtlewax.co.uk

This is made of very good quality and soaks up alot of soap water. You should definately use this instead of a sponge.

  Turtlewax Microfibre Car Wash Mitt

Turtlewax Squeegee Car Dryer
http://www.turtlewax.co.uk

This removes most of the excess water and sometimes removes the need to use a Chamois. A very good time saver.

Halfords Car Polish Chamois Medium

http://www.halfords.com

It is always good to spend a little money on a good Chamois, I bought a cheap one and it had holes in it after the first wash. This one works pretty good, but do read the care guidlines, as I didn't and washed it in hot water and it ripped to shreds :)

  Chamois

Turtlewax Extreme Nano-Tech Wash & Wax
http://www.turtlewax.co.uk

This is a good shampoo and also a light after wax. It is safe on a waxed car in terms of it doesn't remove the wax. A little bit of this shampoo goes a long way.

Turtlewax Extreme Nano-Tech Wash & Wax

P21S Wheel Cleaner
http://www.p21s.com

This is a very strong alloy cleaner. It should be used with extreme care and wearing thick gloves - trust me, when I say use gloves, I didn't and all the nails on my hand became matt, i.e. lost all their shine :). Follow the instructions, i.e. spray on and simply hose off.

This removes all dirt and grease from the alloys which is otherwise quite difficult to clean.

Turtlewax Extreme Nano-Tech Tyre Gel
http://www.turtlewax.co.uk

This product is ok. It doesn't give a glossy wet look as expected, but instead a bit of a timid wet look, but it does last for many weeks and takes only 5 mins to apply to all 4 wheels.

Clean, Polish & Wax

Below is a list of each of the best item that I have tried and I can safetly recommend as 'does work'.

Meguiars Step 1 - Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner
http://www.meguiars.co.uk

This is a very good safe paint cleaner. It gets rid of all much (bugs, pollutions, dirt etc.) stuck to the car paint. The first time I used it after having my car for 5 years, the sponges and cloths all turned black.

It is recommended to use this once a year and possibly just before you wax.

Meguiars Step 1 - Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner

Halfords Car Polisher 240v
http://www.halfords.com

If you plan to wax your car and you are fed up of aching arms and spending 1.5 hours, then you could buy one of these. You can also connect it to a in car power invertor (upto 150 Watts). Replacement mits are just £1.50 for a pack of 2.

You can now wax your entire car in about 30mins. But now after using it for a few years, I don't think I would recommend this polisher and I would spend a little more money and get something better.

  Halfords Car Polisher 240v

Meguiars NXT Tech Wax 2.0
http://www.meguiars.co.uk

This is a good wax. In terms of application you do not need to apply too much. Also it wipes of easily and does not require much buffing.

The wax remains on the car for a couple of months after application and for the whole time the paint feels soft like it has just come new out of the factory.

Car Interior

Below is a list of each of the best item that I have tried and I can safetly recommend as 'does work'.

Auto Glym Fast Glass
http://www.autoglym.co.uk

This product works wonders on glass and clear plastics (i.e. headlights, tail lights, etc).

Unlike other glass cleaners, all you need to do with this one is spray on and lightly rub off! There is no need to buff the glass at all. This gets rid of grease, bugs, dirt, etc.

For best results use a Microfibre Glass Cloth.

  Turtlewax Matt Finish Cockpit Cleaner

Turtlewax Matt Finish Cockpit Cleaner
http://www.turtlewax.co.uk

This is an superb interior and exterior cleaner as It works for plastic, rubber and vinyl. Normal cleaners are nothing but gloss and shine which adds a coat to your interior and it builds up over the years. This product is alcohol based and instantly removes all dirt.

For best results, do not follow the instructions on the can. Instead, spray on to a soft cloth and rub on the surface.

  Turtlewax Matt Finish Cockpit Cleaner

CarPlan Interior Valet
http://www.carplan.co.uk

I have tried expensive upholstery cleaners, but I believe this is the most effective. It is easy to apply and also gets rid of stubborn stains.

Mind you, as this puts a protective coat over the cloth, it slighly darkens it. So once you do one seat, you will need to do all of them.

This can contains just enough for all 5 seats of my car. The best way to use it is to take a wet cloth and dampen all the seats, this stops you having to spray half a can in just one seat as the dry seat just absorbs it and doesn't work properly.
